The postpartum visits are 3 hours. During the visits, I do whatever you need most that day. Often it looks like me giving you a massage, cooking food and snacks, us talking while I cook and you feed the baby. I can do light housework, holding your baby while you nap or have a shower, changing bed sheets, or running a bath for you. My support is physical, practical, informational, and emotional.
I offer postpartum packages because they are 'wrap-around' postpartum care and support. Each package includes a postpartum planning session while you're pregnant, 3, 6 or 10 in-home postpartum care visits, a gift or gifts for the mother, borrowing from my book library, links, information and resources covering related topics like sleep, postnatal mood disorders and breastfeeding, and text and email support between visits.
The postpartum planning session is very important. It's about 60-90 minutes. It's when we talk about the 5 postpartum pillars or needs and how you can get them, how you can build your village, what your challenges are as a postpartum mother, food preferences, and more. I like to do the planning session at about week 30-35, so you can continue to have time to plan your postpartum after our session.
Postpartum massage uses long, gentle, and slow strokes. Mothers often lie on their side with pillows if needed. Postpartum massage helps aid recovery after pregnancy and childbirth, as well as soreness from breastfeeding and holding your baby. Key areas for massage tend to be back, shoulders, arms and neck. Postpartum massage helps circulation and swelling. It's time for you to be pampered.
Note: After a caesarean, you will need to wait 4-6 weeks after birth, until your postnatal caregiver says that your scar has healed.
